Whirlaway with Eddie Arcaro, up. Lithograph. Signed in Plate and By Hand. 13” T x 15.5” W. Can be seen on page 98 of Portraitures of Horses. In 1941, Whirlaway became the fifth Triple Crown winner. Nicknamed “Mr. Longtail” for his unusually thick and long tail, Whirlaway had a penchant for running all over the track. His jockey, Eddie Arcaro, is the only jockey to have ridden two Triple Crown winners, Whirlaway and Citation, both owned by Calumet Farm.
