George Ford Morris (American, 1873 – 1960)
Original Oil on Canvas. Signed. c. 1930s. 21” T x 29” W. This portrait of famous sire Welcome Dare is most unusual in that it was created by Morris but the dog and background were finished by another artist. It is said that Morris completed the horse from start to finish, leaving everything else penciled in but incomplete. After Morris’s death, California artist David Solomon was commissioned to finish the painting’s dog and background. The combination of these two superb artists gave Welcome Dare its finishing touch. The piece was purchased from the estate of George Ford Morris and has hung in a private collection for 22 years. Signed by both George Ford Morris and David Solomon.
