George Ford Morris (American, 1873 – 1960)
Lithograph. Signed in Plate and By Hand. Dated 1945. 9.75“ T x 12.5“ W. The piece was titled “Green Pastures” when sold through the Associated American Artists group, but is labeled “Greyhound, 1:55 ¼, his dam Elizabeth and his granddam Zombrewer 2:04 ¼” when it appears on page 122 of Portraitures of Horses. Considered to be the greatest trotter of all time, Greyhound retired with 15 world’s records at all distances from 1 mile to 2 miles, in single and in double harness and even under saddle as ridden by Mrs. Frances Dodge Van Lennep. The original was painted for Greyhound’s breeder Henry H. Knight.
